Troubleshooting

LIGHTING YOUR GRILL

    1. Be sure the grill is plugged in.
    2. Plug a lamp or something else into the outlet to be sure it is working.
    3. Check to see if the GFI outlet needs to be reset.
    4. Push the button on the left front of the grill to see if the lights work.
    5. If grill sat for a month or more without use, check to see if rodents chewed wires in back of grill. If chewed wires are seen, call a Lynx authorized servicer at 888-289-5969.
    6. If lights do not turn on, and igniters do not glow, call Lynx for a new transformer at 888-289-5969.

      IGNITING YOUR GRILL

        1. Be sure the grill is plugged in.
        2. Plug a lamp or another device into the outlet to ensure the outlet is functioning
        3. If nothing else works in the outlet, check to see if the GFI outlet needs to be reset.
        4. If a GFI reset does not work, please contact your electrician.
        5. If grill had not been used for at least a month, check to see if rodents chewed wires, or the wired are otherwise damaged. Also check to ensure gas orifices are not clogged. If either condition is seen, please call a Lynx authorized servicer.
        6. Check to see if gas is properly connected to the grill. When you hook up gas for the first time, the valve has to be opened slowly in order to not trip the regulator.
        7. Check to see that the gas shut off valve is in the on or open position.
        8. If using a propane bottle, be sure there is gas in the bottle and the valve on the bottle is turned on.
        9. Be sure to push the knob straight in and hold it for 5-7 secs before turning the knob to light.
        10. Carefully test to see if you can light the burner with a match or long nosed lighter. Next, push knob straight in (do not turn) to see if igniter is glowing. If not glowing, please call Lynx for service.
        11. If you are still experiencing issues with ignition, please call Lynx for service at 888-289-5969.

        TURNING ON YOUR GRILL LIGHTS

          1. Be sure the grill is plugged in.
          2. Push in the button on the left front of the grill.
          3. Remove the grill plug, and plug a lamp or something else into the outlet to be sure it is working.
          4. Check to see if the GFI outlet needs to be reset.
          5. If it is a halogen (white) light that is not working, tap the cover glass to see if it comes on. If it does, the light bulb may be burning out. If it does not, bulb is probably burned out. Call Lynx for service or a new bulb at 888-289-5969.
          6. If it is a blue LED light, call Lynx for service at 888-289-5969.

                    HOW DO I FIND MY MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER?

                      1. Check the back of your Care & Use Manual for a label with your model and serial number.
                      2. The serial rating plate is usually on the underneath side of the drip tray.
                      3. If not underneath the drip tray and you have a freestanding model, look on the inside left panel of the cart.
                      4. If you are still looking, remove the knobs and the front panel and check on the heat shield.

                            GETTING YOUR GRILL HOT

                            1. For all grill models except the All Sear and SmartGrill, preheat the grill with all burners on high and the hood closed for 15 minutes. For All Sears, preheat the grill with all burners on high and the hood closed for 4-8 minutes. For SmartGrills, follow the instructions in your manual.
                            2. If your grill is hard piped LP, you may have the wrong regulator. Lynx ships LP grills with a regulator and hose for a bottle. If that regulator is on a hard-piped LP grill, it is not getting enough gas. Call Lynx for an inline regulator (p/n 30781). Before installing the inline regulator, flip the plunger to LP (the inline regulator comes set for NG). Lynx recommends all gas service be done by a certified gas plumber.
                            3. Have you converted your grill's gas type recently? (LP to NG, or NG to LP) Ensure both regulator and orifices were changed.
                            4. Is the grill being used at an altitude over 2000 feet? Call Lynx for new orifices and service recommendations at 888-289-5969.
                            5. What size is your gas pipeline? Lynx Grills require a 3/4 inch inside diameter (1 inch outside diameter) gas pipeline. Lynx Grills are more powerful and require more BTUs than many other grills in the market.
                            6. How long is your gas pipeline run? Longer distances and turns or tees in the line, can reduce gas pressure at the grill.
                            7. Do you have a side burner or other gas appliance connected to the grill gas line? Does the other gas appliance connect after the tee (joint) to the grill, and do both the grill and gas appliance have a regulator on? If yes, you may be double regulated and need to remove the regulator on the second gas appliance. Lynx recommends calling a certified gas plumber for gas service.
                            8. Your gas pressure may be too low. To find out if this is the problem, call a certified gas plumber or authorized Lynx servicer to take pressures at the grill manifold and the inlet. Pressure at the inlet only is sometimes not enough to tell what is happening at the grill.
                            9. If none of the above fix the problem, call Lynx for service at 888-289-5969.

                            LIGHTING YOUR ROTISSERIE BURNER

                              1. Be sure to push the knob straight in and hold it for 5-7 seconds then turn to light.
                              2. When you hold the knob in, can you see the igniter in the back glow? If not, call Lynx for service.
                              3. Make sure the igniter cover is just slightly in front of the burner. If not, pull it gently forward to about 1/4 inch away from the burner.
                              4. Gently push the thermal couple (straight piece of metal tubing next to the igniter) back towards the burner.
                              5. If these things are done and the rotisserie still does not light, call Lynx for service at 888-289-5969.

                              KEEPING YOUR ROTISSERIE BURNER LIT

                              1. Push rotisserie knob straight in for 5 - 7 sec; turn and continue holding the knob in for 60 secs (to get past the safety valve).
                              2. If that does not solve the problem, call Lynx for service at 888-289-5969.

                                      GETTING YOUR KNOBS TO TURN EASILY

                                        1. If your knob does not turn easily, it may be rubbing against the bezel. Adjust the bezel (decorative ring around knob fastened to grill with one screw).
                                        2. If all knobs do not turn easily and you have an M model grill, you may just need to work out the stiff stop of the knobs. Turn the knobs 5 or 6 times each to work out the stiffness.
                                        3. Is the knob loose and wobbly? You may be missing a clip inside the knob. Call Lynx for a new knob at 888-289-5969.
                                        4. If none of the above fix the problem, call Lynx for service at 888-289-5969.

                                              FRONT OF THE GRILL IS HOT

                                                1. Check that the burner is seated correctly. The orifice must be in the center of the burner venturi (mouth). Burners must be seated on the hangers and pulled all the way to the front panel. The ProSear2™ burner must lock into place with the rear bracket in front of the burner crossbar and the burner pulled all the way to the front panel. If you cannot get the burner in place, call Lynx for an authorized service company.
                                                2. The brass burner ports may be clogged with food or residue. Use a paperclip or wire (never a toothpick) to poke out the burner holes. You can also use a 3/32 inch drill bit. After poking out all holes, gently tap the burner outside the grill on its end to empty the residue out.
                                                3. Burners must be clean in order for proper gas supply to ignite. ProSear burners should be turned on high with the hood open for 10 minutes after each use to burn off excess residue. After burning off residue, brush ash away gently with a dry nylon brush.

                                                    HOW TO PREHEAT

                                                      1. All grills except the All Sear and the SmartGrill should be preheated with all burners on high and the hood down for 10-15 mins. The thermometer on the hood should reach about 400 degrees in that time. Be careful not to leave the hood down for more than 15 minutes during preheat to prevent damage to the igniters and wiring. It is not necessary to "peg" the thermometer to 600 degrees before grilling.
                                                      2. All Sear Grills should be preheated 4-8 minutes with the hood down. Open the hood when the thermometer reaches 400 degrees to avoid damage to the igniters and grates.
                                                      3. To preheat the SmartGrill, follow the instructions in the manual or app.

                                                          GRILLING IN A WINDY AREA

                                                            1. Note if the prevailing breeze comes in the back of the grill. This pushes heat forward to the knobs, and can damage igniters and wiring. When the hood is down and the grill is on (grilling or preheating), touch the knobs. If they feel hot to the touch, lift the hood for a couple of minutes to let the heat out. If you have a freestanding grill, turn the grill so the breeze hits it from the side or front to avoid damage to the grill electrical components.
                                                            2. If you usually have a wind that blows in the back of your grill, you might want to consider installing a windscreen available from Lynx.
                                                            3. Windy conditions can divert the heat causing a delay in heating temperatures. Remember to lift the hood every 15 minutes or when the knobs get hot.

                                                                HOW TO ADJUST THE FLAMES ON YOUR BRASS BURNERS

                                                                  1. Remove the grates and briquette trays so you can see the brass burners clearly. Remove the knob and with a small screwdriver adjust the minimum/maximum screw in the valve stem. Flames should be blue with yellow tips, and be stable at the burner’s lowest setting.
                                                                  2. Remove the grates and briquette trays so you can see the brass burners clearly. If the flame is yellow, there is insufficient air. You will need to turn your air shutter counterclockwise to allow in more air. If the flame is noisy or lifts away from the burner, too much air is present. Turn the air shutter clockwise to reduce the air flow. Repeat on each burner.
                                                                  3. To adjust the air shutters, loosen the screw on the air shutter and turn it slowly to adjust the air flow. Tighten the air shutter screws when finished.

                                                                      LOW HEAT

                                                                      1. Natural gas or hard-piped LP units may have improper incoming gas pressure. Gas lines may be either too long or undersized. Call an authorized servicer to have pressures checked at the orifice with a manometer.
                                                                      2. Be sure to preheat with all burners on high and the hood down for 15 minutes.
                                                                      3. Your burners or drip tray may be dirty or obstructed. Poke out brass burner port holes with a paperclip, piece of wire or a 3/32 inch drill bit (never a toothpick). Gently tap burner on its end outside the grill after poking out port holes to empty residue from burner. Pull drip tray open to clean. Grease build-up on the drip tray obstructs the air flow and can cause a grease fire. Do not use foil or other items on the drip tray or grates to collect grease as it may impact the performance of the grill.

                                                                          EXCESSIVE FLARE UPS OR PERSISTENT GREASE FIRES

                                                                            1. Excess grease build up. Clean clean grill.
                                                                            2. Excessive fat in meat. Trim fat before grilling.
                                                                            3. Excessive cooking temperature. Lower grilling temperature.
                                                                            4. There may be grease trapped around the burner system. During a grease fire, turn the knobs and gas off. Leave the hood up and let the fire burn out. After the grill cools, remove and clean all parts.

                                                                                  KEEPING YOUR STAINLESS STEEL CLEAN

                                                                                    1. Clean and polish regularly using a product like Barkeepers Friend. Use the powder Barkeepers Friend to remove occasional surface rust and discoloration.
                                                                                    2. If close to the ocean, use a marine inhibitor to clean and protect the stainless steel. Have service clean your manifold and apply dielectric grease to wiring connections once a year to prevent corrosion.
                                                                                    3. Check your cleaning product label or MSDS sheet to be sure it can be used on stainless steel under high heat conditions.
